I've been thinking on getting a full SS sports exhaust system (and manifolds). But now I'm thinking, the exhaust it stainless already, can't I just modify the mid box to make the sounds desired instead of wasting the good exhaust on their already? Doesn't a 'sports exhaust' just mean 'loud exhaust'? I was thinking of a cherrybomb sort of thing. Thoughts?

Hi Mate, I've been thinking of the same kind of thing and this is what i've come up with.

1. You can either cut the middle box out and using a 'Y' piece from DemonTweeks, drop the two pipes into one then put in a cherrybomb, 'Y' piece the otherside back into two and whalla. The 'Y' piece's will need to be slightly wider diameter or slightly smaller then just sleeve them over the existing pipes or if your thinking of whipping the whole exhaust off you can weld them in but thats abit more permanent.
The only thing doing it this way is it may restrict exhaust flow, on the other hand a cherrybomb by existence reduces back pressure so it may balance out, you'd need to check this.

2. The other option is dual cherrybombs, remove the existing box again and just run them side by side. Means you still have two continuous pipes, but you need to check wether two would fit side by side (I think they will) and if its going to bottom out worse than the original setup.

3. I've seen a few TVR S's that have removed their middlebox's then just put cherrybomb tailpipes on the end where it flicks up the bumper. Personally I don't like the look of these as i'm an avid fan of the simple two pipes but obviously it's each to their own.

It all comes down to work load and cost, i'm seriously considering the dual cherrybomb idea although I am worried that it will be too loud! So i'm going to look into a smaller silencer that will be an inbetween. In terms of a sports exhaust system, they generally increase noise and power output tho by what degree you'd need to enquire further. There's not really much point replacing the whole exhaust system as S's are pretty straight and free flowing anyway, also if yours is already stainless I wouldn't bother, just replace the silencers.

You could also give Custom Chrome Racing a ring, sound bunch of guys who do alot of TVR exhausts. Used them before and they're very high quality and really well priced. As well as doing full exhaust systems they also do exhaust sections, so if you call them they can advise you on an alternative silencers and fit them. Did I mention they are also 'The home of the Cherrybomb'.

Hope this helps anyway.

I had mine converted by offords, they did a great job its a cherry bomb type conversion. They cut open the box take out the padding and replace with a straight through pipe but owd around the pipe. The sound I got, anyone who heard mine will agree, was/is amazing! Its even the noise for the Burnout paradise game. Cost about £140 IIRC, worth every penny.

Mike, do you have a name and address for these guys, my grandparents live near offord so I may look at dropping mine in next time im down. Do you have anymore detail on what they do to the exhaust exactly?

That`s what Clive did!!! it`s a glorious sound, it`s all stainless and Clive worked his welding magic on it, I can`t stop smiling whenever I`m out in it.

I had one made up in stainless steel for my S2, cost me just £80 IIRC smile

Polished stainless with a straight through single box and twin rear pipes and looked the same as the original - just had some baffles and no wadding, it was LOUD ......VERY LOUD!

But nice yes

No need to buy an expensive afterfarter pipe. Just record a real racing car soundtrack from the net onto a cd or mp3 and play it in the car.

you need a bigger sound system then don't you...

How much are S/S manifolds? 300 quid each seems steep to me
