I take it from the side photo yours were the "rabbit ear" mirrors without the circular recess in the door? Or did the stem cover the whole recess as well?

Hi Mark
yes they were the rabbit ear type, with the circular ball joint coming out of door. Just cut away plastic removing steal ball joint-mirror. carefully filed plastic down & flushed with small emery flap wheel in drill. The new mirrors needed 2 stumps flushing (couple of mins with flap wheel) marked where mirror was to sit, drilled door & fastened it on with chuncky self tapers.

Good work - sounds pretty straight forward, didn't even need to take door panel off then?

...so you've used self tappers into the door? Hope it holds but keep an eye on them. Personally I'd fit nuts and bolts with large washers inside the door.

Hi
Cost £50, not to hard to do it you are fairly practical. The main thing is to be careful & not scratch local paint work.

Oh I think they will hold, I did not use the usual small type tapper. I should have maybe taken a few pics of job. Remember 1 of the screws actually goes into the original plastic part of holder which is imo very solid.

Liked them so much just bought myself a pair from a breakers on e-bay - £35 inc p&p and they've arrived already !! well pleased - may have a go at fitting them tomorrow if its dry. Mine have remote contol adjustment toggle - not sure if yours did ?
May take door panel off and see if its possible to route the adjuster cables and fit toggle inside door. If not will just drop into door and ignore.
be good to see behind for a change

COOL.... mine are simple manual ie push-pull mirror itself. Quite an easy task imo to fit em, main thing is to just be careful when flushing old stems off.
