Noisey Fuel Pump?

Yesterday my petrol pump got a lot noisier - a constant buzzing sound - is it about to die ?
Got part numbers off useful links section but not sure if its a lucas or a bosch unit or are they interchangeable?
Car still running OK at the moment - looks like a job for the weekend assuming I can get a new pump by then.

Couldn't comment on your pump's life expectancy but there is some talk of sourcing fuel pumps here

I got one from ebay (link still working) ~ I've not fitted the new pump yet as my original one seems to be holding up ok)

Your tank isn't low on fuel is it?
The fuel flow is used to cool the pump so its never a good idea to run it really low.

Just replaced mine with a pattern part from Euro Car Parts - just £56......the Bosch item is about £100 with vat so a big saving. The Bosch part number is on the Parts List pinned at the top of this forum.

That one looks like it needs a banjo type input connector.

I've bought from this guy - in fact I was cheeky and made him a low offer for a V8 distributor and he did me a good deal.

Personally I think there's a lot of smoke and mirrors about these pumps - as long as it will deliver enough pressure & volume its the fuel pressure regulator that keeps the pressure constant.

I had a sierra 2.0 injection where the fuel pump sounded like an angry wasp and it never failed.

Thanks Barky, I'd leave it but need car to get to work and dont fancy an unscheduled stop one cold dark wet morning.

well as its never had any problems may be I haven't
apart from the usual of course ....
I'm used to "proper" cars - not been spoilt by these so called marvellous modern boxes (yawn) which are as much trouble but no one will admit to it (ref BMW Minis)dont get me started.

Phoned around a bit and GSF have this one in stock - motaquip Pt No 893 - 906 - 091E as per a previous topic and its listed for an Audi at £86 which was the cheapest - All Parts wanted £110 for Bosch one -
Still running OK will see how it goes and have a look on Saturday
