Front Brake Conversion

A few years ago I had an S1 RSTurbo escort, the best modification I ever did was a 285mm disc conversion using a proper kit from Godspeed Motorsport, what it basically did was space out the standard calipers using special brackets thereby giving extra leverage, it worked brilliantly even on hard trackdays, as my s3c basically uses the same escort/sierra setup I am considering getting one of these kits again, has anybody tried this on their S and does it fit ? any car with 15" wheels should be ok but they advise owners to check suitability before ordering.

Standard discs are 240mm, I've gone up to 260mm and it was really easy no messing with spacers or anything, it just bolts straight on.

I have just done some measuring and I am 99% sure that the 285mm disc conversion will fit behind the 15" wheels, I am looking to do this about spring time hopefully and will post pic's when I am done.#

I bought a Griff 500 brake set, bolted straight on and stops better than my modern eurobox which has brembo's all round.

I have been swapping emails with a chap from Holland who is selling Siera cosworth saphire discs, calipers and pads (brand new Ford) at a reasonable price and all being well they should find their way onto my S3c in due course

Ouch, that brings back some bad finger memories. (and bad camera memories)

The cossie brakes are fantastic though. 285 mm's will fit, but I had to reposition my balance weights to clear the calipers. 285mm is the absolute max with 15" wheels.

I have been informed that the 4 pot calipers from a late cossie will fit too, so forget about my comments regarding the 4 pots, unless you plan to fit RS500's which I believe do use different hubs.

My brakes are fantastic even with the 2 pot calipers, so much so that I don't think I could be bothered to change them now, even if i was given some 4 pots. The other advantage is they are cheaper and lighter. 4 pots do sound cool down the pub though. The crossdrilled and grooved disks in the pics came with the brakes, some people like them, some say they will lead to shattered disks. Again, considering the increased disk area, the extra cooling is probably not needed, unless you plan to go racing.

Griff 500 spec is 260mm setup, the disc does look significantly bigger than the 240mm (standard) setup.

I bought mine from Hans in Holland if thats who your dealing with, I believe that is the same as I bought which apparently is the same as the one fitted to the Giff 500. Massive improvement!!!

I bought a set from Hans of Holand for my S1 they were 278mm sapphire cosworth for the front with granada cosworth callipers and spacers and escort cosworth 273 ven. for the back with modified hubs .Stops great, makes brakes on my wedge seem totally useless.

It looks like I am dealing with the same chap as you guys have done, it does give me confidence about the quality of the kit and reliability of the chap(no offence Hans) did you have any problems fitting the kit or did it go straight on ?

Hans has also advised me and is supplying me with a front and back upgrade. He has been really helpful.
