You could - in theory - fit a Rover V8 to your V6 gearbox with that bellhousing - so you wouldn't have to change the gearbox for a Rover gearbox and you could leave the propshaft / gearbox mounts etc as it is.

I'm sure it isn't as easy as that!

Probably a lot less than the V8 can turn - the box is marginal with the V6 anyway isn't it?

That was going to be my next point... and the answer I've seen from a Ford manual is that the Type 9 is rated to 220Nm.
TVR quoted 172lb/ft for the S2/S3 2.9 non CAT and this translates to 233Nm so as mentioned by barkychoc, it is already borderline.

Yes It is borderline But there are two types of type 9 the one used by TVR is the XR4i box and has bigger lay shaft bearings than the 2.0 box Also an S is a lot lighter so puts a lot less strain on it I run my 4.6 through the original box and its been fine so far (touch wood)

Purely through lack of use. I've had probably 15 days at home in the last 8 weeks, its been like that for most of the last 18 months and I see no sign of it changing in the foreseeable future.. As we all know, the car suffers when not being used and whilst I could leave it in airport/train station car parks, other drivers aren't always sympathetic with their doors - one of the reasons for buying a disposable 2nd car..
It was more of a 'do you know of a good home for a beloved family dog that needs more care than I can give now' sort of email than a 'right, cars up for sale' sort of thing..
