I was taking a mate out in the S last night as he had not been out in the old girl yet. She was driving great and sounding great as usual, but on my way home i came round a nice sweeping corner in 2nd, gave the it FULL throttle to show the might of the V6, and... the the throttle cable snapped!
Well, i assume it was that, the pedel just went limp, and i had no throttle. I was gutted.
After we got all the 'at least this was a propper TVR experience' stuff out the way
My mate had to get a jog on to get his car(which happend to be a 4x4 with a tow rope in!) then we had the fun of towing her back to safety, and the real fun of manovering her in to a tight garage with no pwr steering and 1 weed to push! it didn't help that there is a tiny up-hill to get into the garage!
So, friends, buddy's, pals.... Has anyone had experience with this problem?? I am not great mechanically, but have some good mates that are, and if ya'll say its a reet booger, than i'll have to wait untill pay day, then hand her over to a pro.

This happened to me. On the test drive. I still bought it

We drove it back with a polo wrapper wedged in the throttle under the bonnet at 2000 revs.
Most likely the nipple has pulled off the end of the cable at the accelerator pedal end.
Pull the cable back into the engine compartment - cut off a couple of inches of the outer (don't cut the inner aswell!) then post it back in the hole.
Mine then has a loop made on the end by folding the inner back on itself and joining it together with a wire connector inside bit (without the outer plastic bit) - those connectors that come in strips.
I keep meaning to fix it properly.
Make sure with your foot to the floor that there isn't too much tension on the cable - you can adjust it in the engine compartment at the engine end.
This is a bit sketchy as the previous owner did it.
The pic below is from Greymrj - it's actually of his door lock mod but shows the type of wire connector I mean.

That might just solve a slight mechanical mishap I currently have - throttle cable snapped at the engine end (the pinch bolts on the temporary fix I did 2 years ago finally gave way) and having heard horror stories of how difficult it is to fit the correct replacement, I've also failed to find any pinch bolts up to the job..

Could that be because there is too much tension on the cable when you give it maximum clog mode? - I wasn't sure if that was what you were trying to say above or not - when you're at full throttle you want the throttle at max opening but if the cable is adjusted tighter then you're putting lots of strain on all of the throttle mechanism - and in the end something has to give. Get someone to floor the throttle hard (and not your Mrs - someone with a size 11 boot!) and then back off the throttle adjustment under the bonnet until it isn't quite full throttle then adjust it till it is then stop!

I was thinking of the little doohickey mechanism which you posted a pic of. If I could fabricate one of those and attach it to the throttle body mechanism, it would save me having to replace the whole cable or rethread a new bowden cable into the sheath. If the search here worked
I'd be able to have a better look to see how complex fitting a new part would be. Seem to remember it took me rather a lot longer than I'd planned on my v6..Nice to see my little door cable 'bodge' might have other uses! I suggest however that there is probably an easy solution which doesn't require much effort of cost. If the inner cable has broken just ask your local cycle dealer for an inner brake cable (there are two common types of end, you will almost certainly need the smaller one to fit into the recess in the throttle pedal), and a brake cable clamp bolt. £2 ?. Feed the cable through from the pedal end and use the special bolt at the other. Ran for years with one like that fitted, just done exactly the same for a friends car.
Thanks guys for the advice. I like the sound of both options, but the last one sounded cheap and fairly simple. I will need to have a propper look, it's been tipping it down all day today. From what a sa last nght, it's deff come off from the pedel end.

Thats exactly the bodge I used, but I stupidly thought I'd fix it properly this time. In fairness, it lasted 2 years though, so a quality bodge I'd say Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
