Insurance For A Young Guy Desperate For An S1

Hi,

I'm having a hell of an issue trying to get insurance on an S1 . The cars only valued at £2000, 4000 limited miles as a second car. The other issue is im only 22 years old with 2 years driving experience and the same NCB. Now i'd thought it wouldnt be amazingly difficult as i already have insurance on my Austin-Healey Sprite, I know, there's abit of a difference in performance but i'd expect to be able to be insured even if it was triple the price as my sprite. Alas, my current provided said 'TVR?!?!?! At least 30 mate', thats with classicline, Haggerties say 5 years driving experience, Footman James say 25 yo and everyone else just laughs .

So the question is Does anyone know of an insurance provider that may give me a quote, either from personal experience or heresay?

I would have suggested Hagerty's as thats who I've had my Griff with since I was 23. But I had a similar dilema when I got my S3 at 21.

In the end I had to bite the bullet and go with Tesco for the 1st year and the elephant for the second. But I was using the car everyday and it was parked on the street in Newcastle.

I think I paid £1500 for the 1st year and £1200 for the second then around £1000 for the third after which I switched to Hagerty's.

Try A Manning Ltd - 01491 578759 - I've had mine with them since 2002 & they are endorsed by the TVR Car Club. Worth a try.

Try Primo Plc - they are a broker that specialise in younger drivers 01702 225400. I had an accident a few years back and when I next called round a few insurers for quotes theirs was half the price of everyone elses.

Doh, surprised to see you've had a problem with Hagerty. Addmittedly I've been driving for over 5 years, but I was under the magic 25 still when I first insured the S at the beginning of the year and they couldn't have been better. It's a bit cheeky, but maybe you could ask if they know of any other companies?

On a more productive note - have you tried Lancaster? They're also good for young drivers in 'modern classics' (I had my 924S with them at 22).

Do the TVRCC do a club insurance scheme?

Keep looking. Most people turned me down on the grounds of my age and eventually not only did I get a policy, but it was unbelievably cheap (£220pa were a less than ideal insurance record). The deals are out there.
