My battery charger (and very nearly TVR) just caught fire!

I'd turned the charger off at the wall, to take the tiv off trickle charge and was heading back to remove the crocodile clips. Suddenly the positive terminal began to glow and some grease or something around it caught fire.

I grabbed the end of the cable and yanked it clean off the battery, whereupon everything cooled down. Fortunately there was no damage to the car as far as I can see.

There's no way you can pin that one on TVR. I think the blame lies solely with a well known yellow-fronted store be-loved by chavs which sold me the charger. Can't believe there isn't a fuse or somethign somewhere.

Own brand rapid/trickle charger.

Off for the weekend now, but I shall be having words with Mr Halford when I get back.

Thought the car was about to go up!

A while a go I had problems with their own brand charger - made a loud buzzing noise, got very hot and nearly caused my sealed battery to go BANG!! (just noticed the bulge in the side before disaster struck).

Cost me a new battery & never will use one of their chargers again

I'm not very practical, but does this mean using a plug with a trip facility is a good idea?
