starter motor ?????

Just in case, where is the best place to get a starter motor. The car wouldn't start prior to BNG. Got battery tested came up start capacity 58% - battery unservicable. Bought new one(700cca&80amps), fitted it, car is doing the same...nowt , clicks from starter motor - Started once then 2 mins later woudn't, clicking as if juice is getting there but not turning motor. Accumate charger showing battery discharged but charging normally, will try after work tomorrow leaving charger on until then, if same, will get new battery tested. If ok will try starter motor route. tried the usual rocking back/forward in gear, earths and cables all secure. Anything i am missing.

I'd check your earths first. Poor earth will cause same symptoms as you are getting i.e. no path for current to flow

Quick way to check earth connection is to clip a jump-start lead as close to starter motor as poss (ideally onto one of the motor to housing bolts). Connect other end of lead to -ve on battery. If still no joy - probably not earth fault, poss starter solenoid or connections on starter motor.

Same symptoms : mine had a sticky solenoid, it was re-greased by a friend for a few euro's

Also check the big fat red positive lead had a good connection at the motor and battery - beware if it is a poor connection and you look at it just after a failed start it may be very hot. Same applies to the earths.

Thanks chaps, good stuff, already tried a few things last night, but will see what happens later after that 'new' battery has been charged when home from work. Whats the chances of that being "unservicable" also. Thanks Ian will check mail later.
