My top hose from the swirl pot to header/expansion bottle seems to have perished.

Is there a specific one needed or just get a length from my local motor factor.

Hi Russe

Got a full set from Act very good but you do need to re-tighten the clips a few times. The silicone hoses can slip (I know I dumpted most of my coolant on the drive to prove it)

I just bought a length of the correct dia hose from my local factor - just looked and it was 5/16 petrol hose.

I've looked at the ACT silicon hose before, but just never got around to it. I would get them now, but I'm just waiting for a phone call to tell me how much the power steering pump on my SAAB is going to cost me!!!.

I'll get the ACT (purple I think) set over the winter when I'll have the money (I hope).

Thanks for that Jim, I'll have a walk later on and try and get some.

ACT will also do singular hoses.

Oh well it looks like its the ACT hose kit + the stainless pipe kit.

Just put the length of pipe I bought on. Let the engine get up to temperature to check for any leaks at either end, but all looked OK. Was just about to drop the bonnet and noticed some steam near the radiator. On closer inspection looks like a couple of holes in the top metal pipe and presumably some more around the other side of it.

My metal pipes had gone on my V8S - initially it looked like a rubber hose was weeping - then when I cleaned up the metal pipes they resembled a teabag!

Check your radiator aswell - any blue/green stains on there are anti freeze leaking out (look at the botom corners) - once you sort all the pipes out there will be more pressure in the system - so any weaknesses in the radiator will show up.

It's already having a second hand one put on. A new one was £550 for the pump alone.

Hi Russ

be aware if you fit the ACT SS pipes you will need the later type of otter switch but they look good!!

When I bought my ACT hoses I wanted the stainless pipes also, however I discovered that the new pipes take a different otter switch (chim / griff type) and there was a supply issue at the time ( June ) so make sure they have them in before you commit to the pipes.

Thanks, I'll give ACT a ring instead of ordering on line from their site.

It doesn't have to - the one supplied is long enough and flexible enough to pass over the alternator belt like the original (no 31 in the photo):

OK - being a bit dim here (no change there then I hear you say) - what's the otter switch & where is it located? confused

Cheers

On GeraldTVR's pic I think it is the temperature sensor/switch in the SS pipe next to the battery with the two terminals coming off it. Why call it an otter switch I don't know, it is a "water temperature switch" that allows the fan to cut in/out when required.

If I'm wrong then I'll join you in the dunces cap facing the corner
