Well the good news id Gerald passed his MOT (one advisory will need some work on the steering rack sometime in the next few months)

And the bad - my super new dash



cant be fitted as it is the paint finish is all wrong and not only will the glue for the trim melt the paint finish apparently it will crack and bloom. So back to the drawing board a few quid and a lot of time wasted

Can you try the glue on a bit thats not visible?
If you think you can't use it you have nothing to lose!

Thats exactly what the trimmer did and disaster ensued. Dont know what to do now. Adrian Venn suggested painting to match the car colour, he has seen one done and says it looks great but I'm not sure. Could have it covered in leather like other S's but realy want to keep the walnut effect.

You like the walnut effect??? Just goes to show how tastes differ and that is why I ended up with an interior that has been described as resembling a "gentlemen's boudoir" by someone.

If it was me I'd cover it in vinyl for ease of maintenance.

How about spray a clear laquer over the top,same as painting it really,just get the right type of laquer ie resistant to alcohol,petrol etc

That was going to be my suggestion, there must be some kind of laquer out there that would do it. Shame to lose such a nice job. Best speak to a professional.

Go to halfords get a tin from the respray areaits designed to be sprayed on car bodies,ive sprayed a few dashesusing it without any probs

Not removed a dash on an S but is there any way you could fit or fibreglass in "L" shaped brackets onto the existing area that houses the dash, then drill flat bottomed holes in the back of the new dash to align with brackets, bond threadbar or boltheads into these holes, locate bolt threads to the brackets and secure with locknuts, done something similar before. just a thought, good luck anyway.

No problem mounting the das to the body vcaptive bolts by the air vent abd screwed to transnission tunnel at the rear its literally just gluing the trim to the edges of the painted areas

What about a double sided tape? There are some pretty strong ones used in the carpet Laying game.

I have just stuck some leven kickplates on, once stuck on they will not move a bit, on the paper backing it is made by 3M and labelled 468MP 200MP adhesive. Seems like once its on its ON. Worth a try.....

Have picked the dash up from Adrian Venn who is getting some more info for me so I'm going to wait a bit before making decisions.
