Would this diff fit my S2?

Just looking at buying this diff for a project i'm working on- would this fit my 1990 S2. The guy says it's a straight swap but thought i'd check on here first before going to look at it.

The only comment I would make is I bought a 4x4 Sierra which is fitted with LSD for £150-00, stripped it, fitted the diff, and sold the other bits to someone building a kit car for £150-00!! Not trying to be a smart arse, but it does seem a bit expensive for a Sierra diff, which is all they are.

First of all, HOW MUCH???!!!

Secondly, I can't see the point of fitting an LSD unless you need to. How often do you spin 1 wheel up and think 'I wish I had a LSD'?. I can't see it would make a lot of difference in normal road work unless you're ragging it or have lots of power.

I wouldn't pay more than £150 tops for the whole lot. Second hand Sierra parts after all, and probably won't come with a guarantee/warranty etc (although they are robust units).

That's what I'd do,you'll get a spare engine ,ecu probably a throttle plate conversion (slot part) and lots of other bits for not much more money.
PS Geraldtvr, thats where the diff went, its the chap I bought the S, he mentioned he had had? one fitted but didn't offer it to me at the time.Which is a bit odd as I told him I intended to fit one with the V8.

Been away so maybe too late for this but you need to ensure its a 3.64:1 or close and check the drive shaft flange dia - std is 100mm but some LSD Diffs have 108 dia (as I found out when I bought one. )
get the number off the label on the diff and go to the Sierra Owners Club Forum (its on the Useful Links Wiki) and see what it actually is.

Hi guys I think you have got a couple of things wrong or underestimated concerning the diff here. first of all the sierra 4x4 diff will not fit the S as it is a 7 inch one, this is a 7.5 inch rwd sierra cosworth diff which you will find it costs around 250£ without the driveshafts. Secondly i think you are underestimating the way it transforms the handling of the car. Of course if you are driving your S just for show you will find the open standard diff is fine but if you want to get the most out of it the lsd is one of the best mods for it. At least i am convinced as i have had it on my car before i sold it. I appreciate your comments but unless you have compared or have an S with an LSD i dont think they are very accurate. Dont rush to judge until you try

Hi Ken

Hope the project is going ok. Give me a shout when you're done it would be good to see it finished.

To avoid confusion, the diff is from my previous S2 (not the project), i'd be interested in offers for it, although (you probably know this) it wouldnt be suitable for a v8 car, and i also recall you said you had the complete dirvetrain. Tvr offered it as an option to the S3c and S4 cars

That's why I asked what kind of driving he'd be doing. Personally don't I think that I NEED an LSD on my S2 on the road. Maybe if I started driving like a lunatic and spinning the wheels I'd feel differently. Maybe if I was driving on a track I'd feel differently, but mine does 2000 miles a year in good weather, like the vast majority of Ss.

i agree with you of course, when i had my S i was driving it hard (a lot of sideways), but i did find that even at smoother but fast driving on the twisties, the car was much more controlable/predictable and carried more speed round the bends. To conclude i did feel more comfortable (more at ease) driving fast with the lsd on.

I dont think S owners do 2k miles only per year, i did 17k in 2 yrs.
