REAR SPRING RATING

HI IVE JUST REMOVED THE BODY OF MY S3 FOR A FULL RESTORATION CHANGE THE OUTRIGGERS AND RE POWDER COATING TREATMENT.MY REAR KONI SHOCKS(NON ADJUSTABLE) LOOK IN GOOD CONDITION BUT THE COIL OVER SPRINGS NEED CHANGING ANY IDEAR OF THE RATING ???? TO ORDER A NEW SET THANKS KEV

Don't know what the rating of the springs are but I recently changad mine as one was broken. I couldn't get progressive springs with I think they were 2 1/2" inside diameter and in the end had to go to TVR Car Parts for them. I spent quite a lot of time phoning around but no one seemed to be able to supply them other than TVR Car Parts.

i have change my shocks and are now looking for new springs but i cant use the original spring and i think tvrparts said i need shorter ones, are the one you have broke or just rusty

I think it is highly unlikely that your shocks will be any good if they are originals - well worth replacing them if you can find the pennies. You'll have to buy a tool to remove the springs - don't bother put the money towards new shocks / springs.

MY SPRINGS ARE NOT BROKEN JUST BADLY RUSTED,THE KONI SHOCKS LOOK IN GOOD CONDITION WITH NO LEAKS. THE ORANGE PAINT AND KONI STICKERS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION KEV

My Koni's looked great, and I ended up buying 2 different spring compressors till I got one that fitted badly but well enough to get the springs off. Then without the springs on pushing the shocks up and down they gurgled at the limit of compression / extension and you could feel that they were short of oil, and that was on all 4 shocks.
I went for the cheapest option I could find - AVO's, and many people give them a poor rating but it was a totally different car than with the Koni shocks on there.

Shocks don't have a long life anyway - so I doubt your Koni's will be much cop by now.

You can get both the springs and shocks from GAZ. Without spending a fortune on fully adjustable gas shocks, and messing around with sring rates etc, these people have spent some time developing a descent budget set up, which many owners have fitted successfully, including me. I tried AVO, but did not think much to them.
