I'm hungry for easy power. I've heard the 24v is better on fuel too. Maybe...there are 2 kinds of ford v6 24v engine - the BOB and the BOA? What is the difference? Thanks.

I probably won't go for this because I could do with some money...and another car on our drive would not be welcome.

Hi,

The 24v engine in far superior to the standard....the BOA is the earlier version, the main difference being the inlet plenumb....I think there is about 5bhp in it.....the BOA is supposed to be easier to convert however? The other thing is the BOB might run into the emissions tax bracket whereby you might end up paying more for your road tax. The engine pictured is a BOA, or at least the inlet plenumb is.
As for fuel consumption, I get between 27 to 30mpg travelling at average road speeds, obviously nearer 30 on a run. If pootling around, I have never actually measured it, but it feels like it does well in excess of the above. Obviously when doing track days or the like, I do not want to know!
The cost to convert is not just the engine however.....there are numerous things to change...ie exhaust headers, altenator, wiring implications, the list goes on. I fitted an after market ECU, which was not cheap, so I think I spent about 4K, but it might be possible to do for 2K, orless if you are able to make up your own headers etc.

Thanks for the reply. Did you get custom manifolds built then? What alternator needs to be used in the conversion? And what ECU did you use? Did you get your ECU mapped out to the engine after the conversion? Crud 4k. weeping

But tell me, was the conversion worth it? What power are you running at? Am I right in saying that theres little difference in the lower/mid rev range but a big increase at the higher revs? That's the only thing the 12v isn't very good at. Only other way to get more power is possibly tuning the 12v (for which I've heard is far more cost effective to put in the 24v engine) or getting a V8S... lick But i do like the V6 though.

V8S yesbiggrin

I think for some reason that the BOB engine is harder to convert as it was usually automatic in the original installation - I can't remember where I got this info or if it is even true but I think it gives issues as the ECU also controlled the auto box.

If I'm wrong then getmecoatshoot

Finding a BOA engine with a manual box which is RWD with full (color coded and labeled) wiring loom. So basically a 24v manual Granada? Perfect, my search now begins. spin

Search using the words "BOA BOB" and you'll get some more info.

Don't underestimate what it will cost to do this.

A V8S will be cheaper trust me!
