I assume these would have the same Ford uprights, callipers and 240 mm discs as early Griffiths snd Chimaeras?

your best bet is to upgrade to the griffith 500 disc & calipers, otherwise known as from a Ford Sierra, 90-92, 2.0 DOHC which has the 260mm dia discs. S's and earlier Sierra's share the 240mm disc and caliper set-up. Places like Rally Design in the uk will have new discs and calipers to suit.

My old griff 500 set-up is now on my S3 ! and I had a 2.0 DOHC sierra with the standard 260mm discs and calipers as per the 500.

Leon, I am surprised to hear you are suffering from brake fade. My S1 has a Cosworth V6 producing 230bhp, plus 243ftlb torque (sorry its too late to be bothered to convert to Nm, and more to the point I have just had 2 beers!). I have fitted Green stuff pads, and suffer no brake fade whatsoever...OK so I have not been around the Nurburgring in my car, but I have given it some serious stick. Are you sure the brake system is working correctly, ie the fluid is fresh and there is no air, also the brake pads might be poor quality. The only benifit you might have by fitting different calipers is a reduction in unsprung weight, and possibly less pedal effort. Fitting the bigger discs from a Cosworth Sierra will increase the unsprung weight.
Remember the standard brakes were from a family saloon/estate car which could weigh up to 2tonnes fully loaded, and still be capable of around 130mph in 2.8i form.

Hate to burst anyones bubble but according to my parts info, the only Sierra that is listed with the 239 mm front brakes is the 1.3. eek Other cars with the same front discs are various Escorts and Festers...

That said, for road driving and maybe the occasional track day, a set of good 'fast road' pads and DOT 5.1 fluid are likely to provide all the braking you'll ever need.
