S2 Idle at 2000 RPM - Solution found

My S2 used to idle erratically, and used to sit at 2000 RPM until I blipped the throttle when it would occasionally drop down to 12-1500 RPM.

Following advice from this site I checked the temp sender unit (and found a poor earth) and cleaned the 8-way plug near the coil (full of white grease, but now not). It now idles perfectly and has better responsiveness to the throttle.

Thought I'd post the solution in case there are any searches for the same problem in the future.

The ECU one is just behind the distributor sticking straight up out of the inlet manifold. The gauge one is seperate (and has no bearing on the ECU) and is on the front of the inlet manifold on the drivers side with a single wire attached, on mine secured with a nut.
