Hi - After my Cosworth died, its now stripped and parts are starting to arrive. As always nothing is striaght forward with anything I do - There is a guide that looks like it has to be made - I cant find one anywhere, not even Barry xr4i can get one, The hydraulic tensioner and alternator tensioner I recieved are the wrong ones

Every internal guide and tensioner broke

So the rebuild starts.

have you tried a trial fit with the tensioner, could it not be a manufacturers modification to move the pivot point for extra adjustment ?

I had to buy an engine to obtain 'the missing guide'. As for the oil centres on the hydraulic tensioner, they're usually off centre but it doesn't matter so long as the oil can pass through the gasket.

yikes
There are many Machinable Plastics about now, is it not worth getting a spare (or a few) made up off this one Before you fit it??

Sean - what is that bit that is not in the same place?
Is it an oil spray nozzle or something?
If so are you sure (I think it was said above) that the part hasn't been updated.

Hi all

The guide that had to be remade is the one in the first pic bottom right - its the lower guide on the passenger side bank.

The part that has the different centre is the external hydraulic tensioner (sits below the right hand exhaust manifold) that supplies the oil and pressure through the small hole to the main internal blade tensioner and apparantly as others have mentioned it is the correct one, but a later model - I need to confirm this - as it will be a huge mistake if the chain is not under tension. The bits to fix it cost £458 plus the aggro of the engine out and strip job. I spent about £250 during my chassis rebuild on the top half of the engine, BOB camshafts, gaskets and hydraulic tappets. I dont want to do this again for a few years.

The machining of this part should start tomorrow fingers crossed I should have it by next weekend.

Regards Sean

Im back on the road today - car completed late last night, the sun is shining this morning and Im off out to listen to that roar again, Ill probably go the whole hog and put on my SCH t shirt.

I will have to take slowly at first as I have to bed it in for a few miles - well 2 miles at least. Great to be back.

The test didnt go as planned - my bad luck still continues, now i have no fuel to the engine, ive checked out another thread with the same symptons and I am sure that its the pump relay.I ve checked the fuse, put another petrol pump on - same problem, wired directly to the pump, it pulses, but there is no noise coming from the pump just an initial click, so I will try another relay and see what happens.
