Great time at Zolder and now on ferry home. Low loader to collect me from the dock though
Car keeps overheating. Tracked fault down to fan not working so hard wired it. Unfortunately it still dumps all its water every 40 miles or so. Will give more details when home, but thought I'd post my woes as bored on the boat and it is a bit rough! It limped back 150 miles though so quite lucky!

Car keeps overheating. Tracked fault down to fan not working so hard wired it. Unfortunately it still dumps all its water every 40 miles or so. Will give more details when home, but thought I'd post my woes as bored on the boat and it is a bit rough! It limped back 150 miles though so quite lucky!
Back home now and S tucked up in the garage (although covered in salt - rough crossing!).
On the outward journey I did notice a (small) puddle of water from the overflow but it performed faultlessly all the way to Zolder, sat in traffic fine and was driven 'enthusiastically' round the mountains of Germany. All fine.
Then, on the way back to the hotel doing 80 or so suddenly we hear a 'burbling' noise and the temperature gauge rockets to 120deg. We pull over quick with steam pouring out. We let it cool, put about 6 litres of water in and drive back to the hotel fine.
Next day we top up with 1/2 a litre or so. All looks fine so we drive carefully home.
50 miles later, same problem with no warning at all. Pull over. Let cool. Fill up with 3 litres or so. Discover fan isn't working so hard wire it on thinking this was the problem.
40 miles later, same problem. Again no warning. We think now the radiator cap might have been damaged and could be releasing under pressure? This is only a guess, as obviously could be many other things.
30-40 miles later and in sight of the ferry port - same problem!
Later ferry booked and also low-loader arranged to pick us up from Dover. Excellent service from Britannia Rescue.
The car has never been prone to overheating and was serviced only a month ago.
Other than that a great weekend and pleased we managed to limp to Dunkirk to get our ferry.
Many thanks to my brother for rescuing me several times in his Tamora, and also to Roy and John (and others) for all their help.
Edited to add: countries in which I sat on the hard shoulder include: The Netherlands, Belgium and France.
