Brake lights flash when indicating

Hi,

The S2 had its MOT today and passed first time, still had some advisories though...

Firstly, the rear brake lights flash mildly when the hazards/indicators are on. The passenger side is worse than the drivers side. The MOT chap though it would be the contacts on the bulb holders and had a quick go at cleaning them up without success. He advised me to clean all earths and purchase new bulb holders. Is there anything else I can try? Where would be the best source to purchase bulb holders?

Second there is evidence that the wheel has been rubbing on the inner wheel arch during tight cornering. Does anybody have any advice on methods to hold the wheel arch out the way?

Classic case of a bad earth.

Find where the lights earth and make sure its clean and rust free.

I replaced the corroded bulb holders and connectors on mine to cure this problem. The connectors were salvaged from an Escort with about 4" if wire attached. These were then grafted into the existing loom and heat shrink sleeving sealed everything. The reason for doing this rather than just new connectors is that the TVR wiring is very stiff and when trying to route it out of the way it can put undue pressure on the connector. The Ford wiring is much more flexible and doesn't attempt to pull/twist the connector.

I got a pair of new bulb holders from my local Ford dealer last year for the S3, part no. 6067419 @ £10.68 (ex VAT) each.

Had the same problem with mine. I cleaned up all the earth points, three at the front and the one under the n/s wheel arch, then the bulb holders, and it didn't fix it. I then took a closer look at the connectors, the ones on the loom looked in pretty good shape but I found a bent contact on the lighting board. It was bent right over so there was no electrical connection there, carefully straightened it out and the problem was solved.

Cheers Guys. Had another look at the connectors today. One of the metal female parts had broken. I've ordered another from the link on e-bay, hopefully that will fix it.
