PETROL PIPE REPLACEMENT; SUPPLY

Had a bit of a nasty shock when I came to take the tank to pump fuel pipe off the pump. It was quite badly cracked and started to break up. See pic

I knew, from reading the Steve Heath 'bible', that it wasn't such a simple job to change as it looked. The 'bible' is right, this wasn't TVR's finest moment, it is a c--p arrangement and I will be engineering something better/safer....when I get round to it. For the meantime it was a new hose. The 'bible' refers to a steel braided hose. I am lucky in that there is a specialist close to me and he advised against steel braided at this size because he felt that it would be difficult to get a seal using ordinary 'jubilee' clips. He checked and advised to use Carbopress N10 oil delivery hose. The info you may need is that you need 5/8 bore pipe (now listed as 15x23mm). I needed 935mm! Too short and it may kink on the bends, too long and it is in grave danger of touching something like the propshaft, nearside driveshaft or exhaust! You will need 2 x 22mm hose clips and 3 wide cable ties to fasten it safely to the chassis.

Dont be tempted to use an unprotected plastic pipe, or heater hose.

Hi Peter, I asked that question and the staff actually said hydraulic pipe wouldn't be suitable for unleaded but this pipe would. I asked around about petrol pipe in this bore but non of my 'regulars' showed a source of reinforced (as opposed to plain plastic tube)listed in this size.
