Jacking points and tyre changes

Some time in the next few months I'll need to get some new tyres for the S. I'm slightly worried about taking it to the local qwik-fit or whatever as I have images of the YTS kid putting a trolley jack up into the sill! Is this a problem or can they be trusted?

the YTS kid or the sills ? answer to both is "NO!"

I jack up my rear from the large chassis tube between the trailing arm brackets and the front at the main chassis rail next to the ARB bracket...

no doubt others will have their preferences... but not the sill or outrigger.

I realise jacking onto the sills would be a bad move. I'm just not sure a random get-em-in-get-me-out garage would do.

The Eunos I had before looked like it had been damaged by someone jacking it in the wrong place and that was a fairly sturdy monocoque...

I'm actually afed with the possibility that I might have to go to a brand specialist just for tyres!

Hi Chris

Agree with Kevin I insist on 'supervising' any activity on my TVR unless its at a specialist such as Adrian Venn. When I had new tyres fitted locally I watched them like a hawk and still they managed to remove a wheel centre badge. Trust them not an inch

Chris, stick the car up on axle stands and just take the wheels to the tyre fitter. Take out the centre caps too if you are worried about damage or the getting nicked.

I recently used e-tyres a company who come to your house to fit tyres. I had my S up on axle stands with the tyres off, TVR centres safe, on garage bench.

I found e-tyres, excellent. came when they said they would approx 2 days following web purchase. It is a franchise therefore you are dealing with the owner. Worth a look.

I've used e-tyres twice for my Passat and they have been really good, reasonable prices and great service. I'll definitely use them when I need tyres for the S, but I will take the wheels off myself.
