So, 20 months in and first breakdown today.
Heading towards Henley following a chap in an XKR at NSR-type speeds and there's just a bit of hesitancy. Gone as soon as I noticed it. Then again. And once more. Then the battery light came on- hmmm, alternator fault?
Hmmm. Time to turn around and make for home. Worrying about whether I have time to fix it before going away tomorrow and a planned trip on Sunday.
Shiiiiiit. Temperature waaay too high. Pulloverpulloverpullover.
Bonnet up, lots of steam, is that my fan belt? I should pick that up.
Note to self- exhaust manifolds can get VERY hot. Ouch.
Hmmm.
Do the AA exclude TVR's? Only one way to find out.
"Yes, T as in 'Trevor'..."
"No problem sir, a man will be with you in the next hour"
Hoo-ray. That gave me some time to find a post office, withdraw some cash and buy a packet of peas (for the burn on my arm). Rural post offices: lifesaver.
Chap turns up. Takes one look, says "this'll be easy" and is all done in about 10 minutes. Marvellous.
Which is a roundabout way of saying that I need a new fan belt (+ 1 spare- I'm not getting caught out again) and also a new expansion tank cap.
I've been to both Halfords stores in Reading tonight and picked up belt HB1100a and expansion cap FC52 (FC53 recommended here on a previous post but Halfords couldn't even tell me if it exists and FC52 seems to fit...). Belt HB1100a seems to be the same size as my existing belt but will check in the morning- does anyone know for sure if this is the correct belt and if it's okay to persist with the FC52 expansion cap?

I don't know the number for the pressure cap, when I bought my car S3 from Essex I stopped after a few miles to buy some fuel, noticed I had lost a lot of coolant, I filled up with water and struggled home to Reading.
I thought I had a big problem. I decided the cheap option would be to try a new pressure cap first,.
I went to Halfords I read in The Bible it was a 14 lb pressure cap, I just went though the boxes till I found one.
Problem solved, that was two years ago.
