Don't know exactly but the V8 will be similar to the V6. All alloy construction offsets the weight of the extra ironmongery.
Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)
Cheers chaps, got a bit of a problem, the Ford V8 is too heavy as is the Chevy (was offered a good 5.7) which also seems a bit wide but will give it a measure. The favoured Chevy turbo V6 is also prone to cracking heads (although I have not heard of this and they are at least easy to get to!), so I am looking for a compact V6 with a similar weight to the 2.9 (don't want to upset balance) with around 250-300bhp in std form, any ideas? the Cadillac Catera V6 looks interesting but will need supercharging (not that I am complaining ) to achieve the sort of power I am after (240bhp std)

What would the V'hall 3L V6 give if it had a decent induction system and exhaust?
Standard when fitted to the Omega is 204 BHP (or is it 210), must be a similar weight?
It's all alloy, 24v and takes the miles well, plenty of low down lugging ability, will pull cleanly in 5th from as low as 700rpm (with the weight of an omegod behind it as well!)
Just a thought....

That new Iceni sportscar from Trident uses a 3.2 version of the Vauxhall V6 and knocks out 240 ponies. Alternativly how about a 24V Cosworth scorpio engine?
Same block as your existing lump but with alloy 4 valve heads, std output was 200ish so with a set throttle bodies and decent exhuast probably about 240ish.
Oh and the V8 weighs 160Kg fully dressed (clutch etc)

Ford duratec 2.5 v6 with one or two turbos such as used by Noble or maybe a supercharger.
Or the 3.0l v6 lump from the nissan 300zx with twin turbos. There are loads of tuning goodies for those and they have plenty of grunt. You can pick up entire j plate manual twin-turbos for 4k.

Thought about the others but I want something different! (if only the TVR speed 6 was a little less troublesome!)

How big is the old V8 lump out of an old 928 porker, that would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons given the amount of TVR/Porker threads on the site
I'll get my coat

No Japs thanks (Ford 2.5 is a Mazda I believe??)

The Chevy & Ford V8's are both narrower than the 24v Cosworth that I am currently fitting to my S, the reason that I decided against using the Chevy was firstly the weight which would upset the handling
but also the fuel consumption which would upset my wallet!.
It would have been easy for me to use the Chevy V8 as I have 3 lying aroung the garage, but I wanted to make the S a bit more usable than my other cars.
The only time I have heard about head troubles on the 4.3 Chevy V6 was on a Syclone running silly amounts of boost, as they are usually bombproof and also have the advantage of a wealth of tuning parts available for them.
The big advantage of the 4.3 V6 is the torque, which has always been a TVR trait and the fact that the Holden V6 was considered as an engine for the S and even tested, with the Holden being an Austrailian version of the Chevy engine.
Hope this gives you some food for thought, and let me know what you decide on.
