electrics nightmare

me and the car have had a big falling out

i have been trying to sort the speedo out and got a replacement and fitted it and it still don't work

the car is also running like a dog

i have persevered with the electrics but have come to the conclusion that it is giving me to much grief

can anyone recommend a good auto electrician in the northants area familiar with an S preferably

I THINK the connector block (red one?) that the speedo plugs into also feeds revs/speed to the ECU. If this connection is poor the speedo won't work and the car will run rough (especially popping on the overrun). Worth a look before you do anything else?

Yep I was thinking either that, or the speed sensor in the gearbox (which again feeds speed info to the ecu as well as the speedo itself)

have replaced the speedo sensor had to get a new one and rewire it
which red connector do you mean?

the is a connector near one of the cool vents which seems to be the feed from the gearbox but has 2 extra wires coming off it also

when you check continuity from the gear box sensor pin 1 goes to pin one
pin to goes to pin 2 but pin3 goes to pin one i am not sure if this is correct

When I removed my speedo it was connected into the wiring by a red connector (I seem to remember there being around 6 pins in it?) which sat to the left of the steering column, just behind the removable cover that holds the cigarette lighter. When I follow the wires from the back of the speedo they go to this connector. If you have any more trouble I'll have another look and might be able to get a photo.
