Anbody ever changed the pipe to the rear brakes
Discussion
hello all...I'm new on here, and only had my S2 for about a week now. The car is, or should i say, was peachy util the other night, when the brakes failed pretty much completely. Thankfully, I was only doing about 10 mph at the time.....
When I investigated under the bonnet, the pipe from the proportioning valve to the rear brakes has been chafed through by the clutch pipe just above the slave cylinder.
I've had the car up on jack/stands and it looks a complete pig of a job, because the pipe is routed pretty deep inside the transmission tunnel.
Has anybody any experience of changing this pipe, any tips, and if anyone near Lincoln wants to make a few bob by hiring out a ramp or a garge pipt, I'd be really grateful.
I'd recommend that you check this pipe...it's a pretty iffy route with plenty of things to rub on...
Cheers

If there's enough left intact to do it you could always fit a joint under the bonnet and retain the rest of the pipe that goes to the back.
I've got my car in bits at the moment and have taken quite a few photos of the pipe routes, they are only attached to the chassis with cable ties.
The rear pipe on mine (bear in mind its a V8S with rear discs) routes along the top of the chassis under the transmission tunnel on the drivers side to a 'T' just in front of the rear diff. The T then splits with one copper pipe going to each side.
I'm not that far away from you in Bingham, you're more than welcome to come and have a look at it in bits if it would help.

The pipework routing on my V6 S3 is the same as Barkychocs V8S. As said above if there is enough pipework just refit the end. If not you could always add a male:female coupler into the chaffed section and save re-running the pipe. Flanging tools are really easy to use and relatively cheap to buy!!!I've got my car in bits at the moment and have taken quite a few photos of the pipe routes, they are only attached to the chassis with cable ties.

Thanks chaps
Managed to get this done but what a pig of a job, and only possible because I had the use of a 4 post lift.
Managed to join the pipe, and while I was at it space it off the chassis with numerous pieces of rubber.Tie wrapping it back on was fun!!
If I ever have the gearbox out, this pipe is definately getting re routed, or getting better protected, but I'd say it's still worth a check where it passes down the bulkhead..
