Clutch Travel Adjustment

Morning all,


can anyone tell me if clutch pedal travel is adjustable on an S1.5? I've have no problems with the clutch apart from it biting very close to the floor. This can be a bit nerve-wracking in traffic!

Hi Neil

is there an adjustment nut on the actuation rod of the slave cylinder ? sounds like you have too much play. I cant see any adjustment on my S3 at the pedal end of things...

Hi,Neil as per Kevins reply - too much 'freeplay' you need to adjust the throw at the bellhousing (from underneath). Loosen the locknut then take up some of the freeplay but not all!! (is the freeplay adjustment in the bible anyone? I'm at work so can't check ) There must be an element of freeplay left otherwise the release bearing will be in constant contact with the fingers on the clutch cover(pressure) plate. This will reduce the life of the bearing and more importantly will cause 'overthrow' too much travel on the fingers and premature failure. Check that the 'bite' is at an improved position then tighten up the locknut. This is all assuming that its not a fluid loss/slave/master cylinder problem.

I'm sure I read that freeplay at the pedal should be between 10 and 15 mm (probably the Haynes for a Sierra...)
