Only second post - bought genuine 17k S2 in early Dec. Is it just the weather or do S's pluther steam from exhaust more than other cars even when warm? Water level remains spot on and no signs of Mayo in oil. Notice that last bend in exhaust holds fair amount of water - is that the cause?
As a separate issue use car every day for work and was getting fed up of cold weather - fitted Kenlowe hotstart - wonderful but reading through links methinks might not be needed next summer.

Cheers

Mine bellows steam in the mornings like a good 'un ! Wouldn't worry about it at all.

The 'S' has a very easy breathing exhaust system and puts out a lot of heat. The exhausts are always full of condensation at this time of year.

As for cold starting, I have never had an issue with mine starting in the mornings (everyday car) and would suggest that you checked all your systems over until you are happy they are all spot. Especially areas such as the dizzy and HT leads, spark plugs etc...mine always runs lumpy for the first couple of minutes but always fires first time and is fine after that.

Cheers Mark - thanks for info

Bought Hotstart (electric kettle [!] with impeller which fits into heater hose) so as to have heater blowing out hot air immediately on starting. Works a treat as takes engine water to 85c and defrosts straight away.

That hotstart thing sounds interesting. Where did you get it from? Does it bring the whole engine up to working temp?

Hotstart bought through MG Owners Club (whoops - sorry but also have MG TD and B Roadster)www.mgownersclub.co.uk
but better to start on www.kenlowe.co.uk
under pre-heaters for full description.
Plug in at night (S2 not in garage - TD has that luxury!) with a timer in garage and wander lead. Have fitted water-proof plug (comes with kit incl pipes, fittings etc) on ledge just behind brake servo which allows lead to exit between body and inner wheel arch.
Water temp registers just below 90c on gauge on starting engine and thermo has already started to cycle. Kenlowe claim significant reductions in petrol consumption and engine wear but if I am honest I bought it for instant comfort and vision.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. Cool if it reduces the wear. Also better for the Mach 3 exits from the garage ... so not quite so sure about the fuel consumption benefit.
