Mirror Relay

Decided to finally try and sort the electric wing mirrors today and in chasing the wiring found all supplies correct, but the relay was missing in it's entirity . Does anyone know what this relay is? My system is the Citroen one with the switch and diamond shaped joystick

The relay itself is located in the passenger footwell with the 'flying leads'/wire bundle that falls out when you drop the flaqp to expose the fuse holder.

I can't remember what serial or other identifying marks were on the one on my V8S. However, I would have thought it would be a simple 4 blade relay.....as essentially you are just switching a higher currewnt to the 2 'gimbal' motors in the mirror itself.

I would check the relay base to see that it is just a 4 blade unit and then go to an auto electrical factors to get a replacement....My 2p's worth any way!

cheers nick, yes it is a 4 blade relay - I had the wiring loom out in chasing the system and found the thing missing. However, I was not sure it would be a standard relay or whether it would need to be anything special. Although an Engineer by trade I am of the Nuclear Mechanical variety and small electric string is not really my forte, although I can get by.

Will try your suggestion unless anyone else has a serial number I could trace the part through - I really have nothing to lose bar a fuse or two maybe!!!

Hmmm- the relay I took out of mine was a 5 blade metal case job with a diagram on the front similar to number 3 here although I can't say that this is definately correct because the mirror fault I have which I was told was "just a relay problem" was actually not solved by replacing the relay and that has exhausted my rather limit elecrtical capability- time to reconsider my options I think...

No doubt one of the S-club sparkies will be along shortly

It ought to be a 'change over (flip-flop)' type of relay with 5 blade connectors. Had to re-wire it all on my s without the aid of a wiring diagram so took me a little while to work things out. May still have the sketch on how it's connected if need be as can't see the electric window circuit shown on the diagram I subsequently acquired (from here I think!?)

Harvey, will have to go and have another look to see if 4 or 5 bladed. When I replied to previous post I worked from memory (and my memory seemed to imply it was a 4 blade but could be wrong) - must stop doing that. Will edit later with actual fit when the rain stops and lets me get car out of garage. Cheers for the link to the suppliers though that may well help. BTW I know my fault is just the relay as all electrical supplies switch as required at the relay block when the joystick is moved and switch is switched from left to right and I have continuity along all wires to the mirrors (as re-wired these at back end of last year as wired had been broken/cut before.

Cheers for offer of drawing, but I don't think I'll need it as the wiring is ok and matches the diagram I have from the "bible" (at least all except wire colours match) so reasonably confident in wiring and that it is purely the missing relay that is the issue (I may yet prove to be wrong though!!!!)

Have re-checked and sure enough the alzheimers had set in the missing relay is a 5 bladed type - I forgot the central one. Anyone have a serial/part number or is it simply a case of purchasing a standard 5 blade relay as stated by bonefish and Harvey B above. If so does anyone know which type it is A or B in HarveyB's link? Note the relay socket has no markings on it to help me.

Type B I Think- my old relay has the same set up as the B albeit with an extra pin in the centre

My electrical knowledge is pap....

I also suspect my relay has gone on my mirrors. Can anybody tell me on here if I can test if a relay using my new toy (multimeter) to see if its dead or not?

Or is it a swap it and see job?

Swap it and see is far easier!
You may find another relay the same in the fusebox to swap it with.
