Erratic Speedo

Did a search but can't see anything exactly like this.

Speedo started jumping all over the place. Sometimes it behaves like a tacho
going with engine revs other times it appears dead and sometimes it appears
to be working okay (not many).

Any ideas, has anyone else had this. Im thinking earth but any advice appreciated.

I've read that it can also be that power connector in the steering column that burns out - its a big yellow one I think.

I had this problem when I dismantled the car.
Now I also have to fix the speedo sensor some idiot ripped the wires out of it when they removed the engine & gearbox
