How To Recover An S2 Centre Console?

Just wondered if anyone has done this successfuly. It's the only thing on my new toy that lets it down. Basically, all the vinyl has cracked and most peeled away. I'm all for "character" but this is a bit much. Previous owner was quoted about £400 at David Gerald so would rather go the DIY route.

Seems a lot to me! I'm sure any local trimmers would recover for you in any specified leather or viynl. If you have decided thats the route you are going down I'd just drive the car to a couple of ones local and get quotes?

As Grant says, probably worth trying a local upholsterer or something.
Anywhere that doesn't double the price when you say 'TVR'.

Might be worth removing it first & taking it out of the car.
One screw each side at the very back on mine and not much else holding it in place.

Chris ~ it's not as easy as that with an S2.
The center consul is part and parcel of the dash. It's all one unit unlike the S3's 4's and V8's
To replace the whole lot would be quite complex as it would require the dash to be removed. I suppose that a cheaper option would be to make a join by the radio.
I have heard that people such as "Chips away" do vinyl repairs but I have no idea what they are able to do nor the cost.

Still might be worth removing it first as if the trimmer has to do it then you'll pay for that labour (and to put it back). You want his trimming skills - not his ability to remove the dash. I've never took it out of my old S2 but I think the process is described in the bible. Providing you are careful and label anything you disconnect I think it's straightforward.

With the dash out, the trimmer can then gat a good look at the construction and will be able to give you a pretty accurate estimate of the cost.
