I've lost count of the number of times the front light connectors have caused trouble (despite being tied up out of the way and bagged to keep the weather out). Basically, the interior grade connectors that were fitted as standard are not suitable for outside use and the connectors and wires all corrode. Over the years various connectors have been replaced but the the new ones soon corrode too.
I've recently replaced the connectors for the front of the car with hermetically sealed ones, very small but take up to 15A (I think it was) per pin, came in various sizes from single pin up to ten pins. Not cheap, couple of pounds each instead of pence for the originals, but hopefully this will be a permanent solution. If you're replacing external connectors it might be worth spending the extra few quid and do it properly? Got them from Farnells, can't remember the part no.s off-hand but can look them out if you're interested.

Leebee supplied me with some American multipin connectors with proper seals. Tricky to fi initially they have seen off everything the Britiah weather has thrown at them for the last 20 months without ever getting wet on the inside at all.
Easy to take apart aswell. I have in fact moved the location of these connectors in my car as previously they were all bundled together on the wooden piece of the bonnet. I'ved changed the positioning now so that they don't get covered in muck from the wheels and are easy to access to take apart if necessary. Fortunately there was enough slack in the wiring to be able to do this. All connectors are now located on the front top rail of the chassis and held firmly by a couple of tie wraps.

I am currently doing the internals and looking at making some harnesses for the central locking, stereo and electric windows on my S1. (Yes its got all the optinals)
The cables on the passenger side have been cut as they pass through into the door. I have done a temporary repair but want to tidy up the Vipers Nest under the glove box and re-route. Coud you give me further details on the source - that would be realy helpful - the internal ones will do.
Thanks for the tip on the externals, no problems as yet - although the conectors are inside the engine bay packed and wrapped.

I replaced my front end connectors last year. Got them from www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk who are in Derbyshire so you may already be on to them.
The stuff arrived in the post the following day no problems. Hope this is of help.
