Need a new battery - Varta or Bosch agents in Kent?

The old gal needs a new battery. Currently fitted with a oldham 072 630 Amps cranking power. Apart from motor factors, I can't seem to find a Bosch or Varta agent in Kent. Any of you guys seen any on your travels. Any body know if any batteries from these manufactorers fit and have front lugs on the bottom? (rather than side ones). What have you got fitted? Any advice welcome. Thanks guys,Mark

Camberley Auto Factors stock Bosch and have depots across a wide swathe of the South East.

What size is your battery tray. I tried to buy a Varta (70 Ah and > 600 Cold start Amps) here in Holland but they are at least 175 mm wide. My tray is only 165 wide. Or did you all modify your tray ?

Han, This is the promblem i'm finding, the Varta's are all 175mm wide and wont fit the standard tray. How hard can it be to find a battery to fit! Maybe anyone reading this post can list their battery make and number for future ref. I can't find Bosch dimensions online? Colin, can you help?

Mines a "Banner - Power Bull" which fits nicely, I've seen them on other S's too... I only have photos to go by here but can look further when I get home at the power rating etc

Hey Kevin,

I also looked at Austrian Banner batteries, they seem very good. Looking at the specs the heavier ones are all around 175 mm wide. What type power bull do you have, what's the actual width of the battery and your tray ??

Thanks for that info Kevin, where did you buy yours from? Would be great if you could post those battery specs, many thanks. Han, like you say, looking at that PDF the only ones that fit are of low cranking power?

I'll have a good look when I get home on friday... heres a pic, maybe you can scale off something to figure out the width. I must say the tray looked original when I refurbed it all last winter. The battery was on the car when I bought it but I'll have a look at the pile of receipts that came with the car. Its never had a problem cranking the engine so far (famous last words )

OK just been out to the barn... dark and cold out there... Brrrr...

Battery markings are Type = P74 05
12V 74 Amp 700A
date 11/2004

size (at base) of battery = 280 long x 175 wide x 175 high

my tray is 180 wide and 300 long

No Receipt in file sorry.

OK Kevin,

This helps a lot, it means you have a wider tray then mine.
I will have it modified from 165 to 180 mm wide and try to find a banner battery here in Holland.

Maybe you should bolt a new larger tray to your existing tray ? cut the edges off the old one and fix the new one directly to it... that would be pretty easy to do and improve your options selecting the right battery
