F******* Fuel Gauge !!!
Discussion
I picked the car up last night and brought it back into the city. Crove into work this morning and it started to misfire really badly etc etc
The long and short of it is that it had run out of fuel !!
The gauge was registering 1/4 tank full and has never been that wildly out before.
Don't half feel a knob calling out breakdown for that !!! I did at least tell him to get some fuel on the way as I thought that was the issue.

Mark,
My S3 did the same to me, luckily just down the road so I managed to get my wife to bring some petrol out - it had always been fine up until then.
Mine stayed at the quarter mark even with the ignition off and wiring disconnected, the gauge had gone u/s and they're not available now, so if yours is the same its down to filling up based on the mileometer.
