Whilst storing my S1.5 in a barn for winter I accidently knocked off the driver's wing mirror. The mechanism holding the wing mirror on is like a ball and socket joint, however when I try and attach it back on it doesn't seem secure. Should I be using excessive force to attach it or is there something else which may have broken off ?

If it's the type marked "FAG", it should be a tight push fit. I was advised to pour some hot water in the (plastic) socket to make it easy to push the metal ball home. The replacement mirror (I got one from Tower View) comes with the socket part, which TVR cut up to glass into the door.
As Roy sayd the best way is get it hot with water and then I'd use a little fairy liquid to ease it onto the ball.
The first day I had mine I was cruising along the M25 rejoicing in the new ownership 'grin' when the drivers side wing mirror fell off at about 90mph !!
Once they have worked loose they are useless and do not hold position. The one I fitted to replace using the above method has been there for 18 months without any issue.
Be careful that when fitting you do not overstress the door by pushing against it. This will cause it to craze if you are really unlucky.

Recently aquired and enjoying an S3, have the usually little niggles, intermittent passenger side brake light not working (assume earthing problem - anyone got any idea which earth point to look at??), also petrol gauge only works when half a tank or less. But my real problem is the electric wing mirror being loose, do I need to get the panels off the door or try to split open the mirror itself or is there another way of tightening it back up ????
