Been on the Rollers today

Spent the morning with V Sport in Boldon and had the S on their new dyno for a check up - chuffed to say all was perfect and nothing needed as it made 160BHP and all the techie graph stuff was spot on according to the guys, so on the back of that I have put the thoughts I have been having recently about moving to Chim / Griff ownership behind me and decided I like my S and all the folks I have met because of it too much to part with it and have just ordered a set of Gaz shocks and springs as a treat.

Have to say though I didn't like the thrashing they gave it on the rollers one bit and to say I was worried as it screamed like a banshee over and over again is an understatememt !!!!

I've heard of a couple guys have expensive problems caused by rolling road sessions and would not feel comfortable about putting my car through it. Fortunately mine was done not long before I purchased it and it's good to know that as a result there are 170 horses in there for when I need them

Not sure mate to be honest - I think it is a new place, they had an open day a couple of weeks back and I heard some good things about them so thats why I went - did you get round to starting your refurb yet ???

I know mate I have also heard the horror stories and was a bit worried even though I knew what was in store as I had my last Tiv on the rollers a few years back, I suppose deep down I kind of new the motor was in good nick as it feels strong and it was clean as a whistle when I had the heads off last year to renew my manifolds - doesn't stop you biting your nails away when its screaming though !!

I'd be worried about the heat - whatever fan you stand in front of the grille isn't going to give the same cooling as driving at 70pmh (ish!).

Nice one, Graham! I remember you were thinking about this a few weeks ago and I'm glad you're pleased with the result. Just remind us - is your S3 pretty much, erm... 'standard'? I know it's in great condition and you've done a few nice mods here and there, but has it had anything done to enhance the performance?

I am not really certain about standard or not as when I bought the car the guy I got it from said he had just had it set up at a performance place and they reckoned it may have been chipped at some point but not conclusive.

I was seriously thinking about it and had went as far as veiwing a couple of Chims and Geoff even caught me getting a ride in a Griff on Sunday but to be honest I have put too much time and effort into the S to let it go and I haven't got room for everything - as for Porsches mate there OK as an everyday hack I suppose but you just don't feel the need to wash and polish them religously and lavish hours of time on them and you can just leave them outdoors without feeling bad about it

Keep the S - i have the same thoughts but keep asking myself....how would i feel if i saw it driving off with someone else at the wheel.... no chance.

Mines been chipped with a reprogramable piggy back chip & puts out 170hp but 224 lb/ft torque (50 higher than original specs)

I have driven my mates V8S (a good one) and he was in my V6 - very little in it, he kept up with me all the way.

I reckon as a fair comparison, its the same as a 350i wedge

What Make of chip Giles? where from?

why not sell that and get a v8s ( were the real power is ) i have a mondeo st24 2.5 v6 and a tvr v8s and the tvr is fantastic fun and power to drive i ofter drive past loads of traffic at great speed inthe isle of man as there is no speed limit on the moutain road and no camera's . we have a great corner called hillberry which was redone this year for the tt races i have been throught that corner at 130mph and accelerated upto 145mph towards the creg-ny-barr ,at which point i had enough , it's fantastic fun and very fast .
