Viewing TVR S3 tonight

At long last I might be heading into the TVR ownership world, testing a 1992 Series 3 2.9 V6. I have a copy of my Bible and a buy tips sheets http://www.tvrsseries.com/, great site for information and have joined the TVR Club all I need now is a well look after imaculate Red with cream interior S3. See what tonight brings

Its pretty expensive - however the guy has had it for sale for months so maybe time for a few low offers, you never know, I considered it but it was just too much hassle & travel to go and look at it.
Does look good in terms of the fact he's owned it since new, history etc.
If you are insuring it as a second car then there's about a fiver difference in insurance between the V6 and V8 with Hagerty who I'm insured with.

I'll tell you latter on, The red one is the one, have been told it is imaculate so will have to view state of chasis and engine tonight. Being in the isles don't have to pay the VAT so no worries there. To get a car back here you have to factor in the transport costs as well, which are not cheap. I'll take my camera tonight and get some good closer shots on teh chasis and the oily stuff, as it is my first TVR would be interested on peoples feed back on them.

This was the bit that put me off the jersey one - do you have to pay VAT if you bring it back to the UK ?Red one does look mint I have to say - and very low mileage.
A low price isn't everything - you can spend a fortune doing these cars up, allow me to demonstrate......

Pah your an amateur,plus you car looks very nice Its at the point now where it needs some tlc to keep it that way - a trailing arm bush has some play, the hoods leaks and needs some stitching, the chassis needs painting.
All little TVR ownership challenges.
I'm giving serious consideration to having the body off this winter - to treat the chassis BEFORE its knackered, which has got to be easier than mending it when it has dissolved. I have the space in the garage to do it - and its the main thing thats niggling me - so watch this space.

Just came back form the test, pretty tidy car,
On the basics oil pressure would go to 50 psi whilst running and whilst idle drop down to around 25. temp stuck at 90, interior is very good. Found a paper under the front carpet (1996) and it looked like it was placed there last week!!
Wind screen had a bit of delamination but nothing too serious. Slight creak and rattle from the drive train behind drivers ear, but not sure whether that is just the exhaust hitting the chasis. Had a stainless exhaust. Chasis not perfect and the pictures make it look better than it realy was. Area behing the wheels had a fair amount of mud and bubling on the plastic coat but a dig with th screwdriver it seemed solid, same for seat belt supports. Rear axle supports from diff paint was peeling off and they generaly felt thin. Brought a smile to my face thou as I drove it round the coast. and that is the important bit now have to remove the heart and think with the head comments on teh phots and further things to look for welcomed.

My personal view is that the car is OK - but its at top money and I don't think it quite lives up to the price.
Those outrigger tubes need some attention soon - as my own do - but I paid less than that for a V8S.
I'd also say if you aren't quite sure then its not the right one !

The out riggers need a more detailed check,if possible get the dealer to remove the inner wheel arch this will give a much better view of the outriggers along the side rails.The rust we can see is probably just surface rust,but all that dirt trapped above is not a good sign.Having said that the coating might be totally intact
The chassis looks in very good overall condition,based on the photos
Bearing in mind where you live i would go back for a more detailed look at the outriggers if they are in good nick i might be tempted, as finding another is similar condition might take along time
I assume it comes with a decent warrenty,so £7k seems a fair price

Cheers Pie, much appreciated, Got a screwdriver out and di dsome pretty solid poking away and digging in. Rust on the out riggers was surface and not much came off when is scrapped it about either. Got right inside the wheel arch digging around on the top of the chasis. The Chasis looked in my opinion in good shape.
One thing thou is that it had manual electric mirrors.. From what I have read they talk about electric mirrors, I could not see any switch for it? Is that normal? Also on the plus side 5 secs for drivers window to come down! It's the important things that count!!
