paint protection

My S2 is still in Webs Autos having the bonnet repaired, anyway, my thoughts turned to protecting the paintwork on the front of the car. I found this, www.film2paint.co.uk anyone got comments, oh and you can get diy kits from them.

I'd be inclined to get something like this professionally fitted, could be expensive if you buggered it up !

I'd be slightly put off by the 'almost invisible' aspect of it, with emphasis on the almost.

Yup Chris I've had a look at the web site and the promo clip and "Almost invisible" would put me off

I`m trying to balance out the`almost invisible` statement against the inevitable stone chips, other similar treatments are on the market and are expensive to apply.

I had the same dilemma when mine was delivered in June after a full body respray. I decided not to go with any of the available paint protection products in the end (other than loads and loads of P21s polish & wax )

I've seen a few cars with these fitted and the "nearly invisible" bit put me off aswell, simply because the longer it's there the less invisible it becomes! It can become very noticeable around the edges as grime, polish, wax etc are applied over time, unless have the whole car covered which will be silly money

Also if you're going to have it fitted it's really a pro job and a proper pro job will not be cheap, which needs to be compared against the cost of having some stone chips properly sorted if/when you get them.

Hello Longers, it`s a dilemma alright, I`ll let you know how I get on. My S is still in the garage, my insurance company don`t agree with the damage that I am claiming, two areas of crazing that appeared as a result of the shunt are in dispute. Also they are after an extra payment as they reckon the bonnet will be in better condition after the repair, i.e. the stonechips will have gone. I told them that is part of the paint prep! and it drags on from that. The annoying thing is that the other party has admitted liability! it is so frustrating. The mot and tax has also now expired and my number plate light has recently conked out, oh the trials and tribulations of TVR ownership, see ya

Probably worth weighing up the cost against having the bonnet sprayed, which I can't imagine is that difficult compared to spraying the entire car.
