Hello S-Lovers,

took right driveshaft down to replace clonking cv joints, and I'm not sure to understand the difference between above mentioned
*CV joints (Driveshafts)
*CV joint boot kit

After removing the outer circlip, I slided down a complete cv joint unit from the driveshaft.
The bible explains that this "unit" shall still be separated into "cv joint" and "cv joint cover" . I haven't figured out yet how to separate both, but what are actually the parts to replace?
I understand it was only the part with the balls, which slides on the driveshaft excluding the "cv joint cover", where the gaitter is fixed on via clip.

Now , what is the "boot kit" that people on this forum use to include, when they replace cv joints, and of course how do I separate the "cover" from the cv joint.

motor factors -

is the price of 25 quid for one cv joint or for one pair?
do they have an online order service? if yes what is the adress, please
are they on the continent as well?

many thnx
cheers & merry

The Boot's just another name for the Gaiter as far as I'm aware (or outer cover...). on most cars, the factory fitted boot is a fully moulded "tube" (obviously with the ridges and stuff) but I have seen replacements that are a "flat" sheet with studs on one end that you wrap round the shaft/axle tube, press together and glue, therefore forming the "tube" boot.

I can't vouch for the Tiv having not looked under mine, but in these instances, you just get Mr Stanley out and cut the old one off.. then whack the new one on (metaphorically speaking) when you've assembled the rest of the joint etc. again.

Cheers,
M@

Patrick,

as M@H said the boot kit is the rubber gator that covers the CV joint and keeps the dust and dirt out. If your're replacing the joint(s) you may as well replace the boot as well.

My CV joints were £25.30 each and boot kits £4.95 each. These came from a UK supplier called AllParts (+44)02085730033. The joints are exchange so there's a surcharge of £10 for each one.

As far as I'm aware they don't have outlets on the continent, but they've been very helpfull to me in the past so if you cant source any locally they'd be worth calling.

Cheers,

Dave.

Dave,

Thank you very much for your answer. I will call AllParts and try to get things settled with them.

Cheers
