Starting Problems

Hi Guys,
Now the rain has stopped I decided to get the S out for a few frolics. After charging the battery I put the key in and the engine turned over once, then stopped. If you keep the key turned the engine will turn over ove then stop, wait a second and do it again. If I persist it will eventually turn over normally then away you go. What do we think is the problem? Damp? poor conection somewhere or a knackered starter?

Any adive greatly appreaciated.

Pete,
If the car has been laid-up I would check the battery condition and the big connector at the back of the ignition switch.
Otherwise it's going around with a meter and methodically checking for 12V starting at the starter motor solenoid and working backwards.

Hi Nick,
Thanks for that. The battery is only a year old and fully charged (according to my chargers volt meter) so I guess, as you say, its check all the conections.

I had something very similar and it did turn out to be the ignition switch.
