Hadn't noticed this before

Coming back from Stratford tonight, I noticed that the foot well myside was lit up like a christmas tree. This light obviously goes off if I turn the headlights off. I hadnt noticed this before not that I tend to pay much attention to whats going on down there when I'm driving.

Does anyone elses S3 or S model do this and if so why? Surely you dont need to know where your feet and pedals are in the dark do you?

Sounds like an instrument light that needs to be stuck back in.
Use instrument lightswitch (with headlights on) to check.

I agree with the last poster, but I also think it could be useful to know where the pedals are whether it's dark or not!

Thanks lads, but I've managed quite well for the past 17yrs driving in the dark without any foot wells being illuminated.

I've had a quick look and can see the offending culprit, but where its came from or how exactly I am meant to get my fingers up amongst such a tight gap to put it back is anyones guess.

Suggestions anyone?

IIRC the 'lying on the back with head under dash holding torch between teeth and grating most of the skin off your knuckles' manouever is normal answer.

Interesting position I must admit, and non too sure its one I wish to get myself into.

No doubt I will get myself into a compramising position to get the deed done and either the neighbours will decide to pop round for a chat or the phone will start ringing, bang on cue like always.

Hi coolcatmaz.

You could wait for a real dark night. Drive the car and check all the dails. If one stays dark. Smear lipstick on it and wait for the sun to come up..find the lipstick, call neighbor, et voila!

Not sure my neighbours would be of much help Olav. Weird lot, reckon some inbreeding going on in the village.

As for the lipstick, well I can think of better things to do with it than put it on dials. The bulb doesn't bother me much, its not for the speedo as that one lights up. If I cant manage it at the weekend then I'll leave it for when it has its water pump and full hose kit replacement.
