My S3c used to run happily on premium unleaded, super unleaded or the new fangled Shell Optimax stuff, but I've heard that the V8 engine doesn't like premium - is this the case? what do you all use in your V8 TVRs for normal road use?

I know the P6 Rovers used to need 5 star but I guess that the later engines were detuned and the timing retarded for lower octane.

Now I'm going from Ford V6 reliability to TVR Power V8 what else do I need to know?

All consructive advice welcomed.

Thanks,
JSG

I'm sure this will be a FAQ. The only issue with the Rover V8 is pinking, which will vary from engine to engine, and is also affected by ignition timing, ambiant conditions and how hard you drive it. Pinking can be cured by retarding the ignition slightly if necessary, it won't be necessary on most cars particularly at this time of year.

Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

My V8S definately prefers the higher octane rated (and higher priced) Shell Optimax!

There is an unleaded FAQ on my web site and there is gruesome detail in the S bible. I have also been using the Millers octane boost as well with ordinary unleaded and that works well.

Thanks Guys,

I'll stick with Super Unleaded or Optimax I think.

Steve, I've got the bible, good info from the club. I bought my copy early last year when I got my S3, I hear there's a revised version out - without sending you into sales mode, is there additional info in there and should I trade the bible up along with the car?

Thats a thought - whats the trade in on the bible ?

Err double the number of pages for a start. A lot more detail on everything basically including new chapters on fuel injection, ignition system, brakes, upgrading your S etc etc.
