Rear light electrics

Why why why is it never easy!!!

Having failed its MOT for faulty rear lights, I followed the PH links and bought a pair of bulb holders only to find I also need the electrical connectors.

Anyone have any ideas where I can get some before S Club or do i need to modfy the existing?

Any advice welcomed.

What connectors ?

The (Escort) light clusters I bought a while back mated straight up with the existing edge connectors..

The existing connectors are very securely fixed to the original bulb mount.

How did you disconnect them?

I tried this but unfortunately its so securely fixed it pulled part of the metal plate with it.

Should it easily separate?

Should be fairly easily as they are just plug and socket

Sounds like yours has corroded together

Either..

Soak the connectors in WD40 for a day or so and see if they release, or..

Get down the scrappy with a pair of wire cutters and cut a couple of connectors from an Escort. Then, just solder and shrink-wrap (ideally) the replacement connectors onto the existing loom..

The bulb holders need replacing due to some level of corrosion so this could well be the case.

Any idea how to seperate them?

Has anyone ever crimped theirs to improve the connection?

Had a look at this tonight.I removed the connectors from the plug and found they were brass,imho this is a good and bad thing.Good because they dont rust,bad because they have lack of spring.
So each time abulb is changed the connectors open a bit

So my repair was to twist the pins on the bulb holder 90 degrees,this allowed standard insulated crimps to fit.So I cut the plug of and threw it away and just put a crimp on the ends and job done
