Hope these help.
Actual fusebox one hour ago, what a pig it is to take a picture of !
Note the top 4 rows seem to be seperate to the bottom row.
I think the resistors (stripey things sticking out with purple & red wires) at the top are exclusive to the V8.
From the manual the S3/S4 and V8S are the same layout. (Your profile doesn't say what you have).

I haven't replaced the flasher unit, but I just had a flash of inspiration and have been out to the garage again.
With my indicator ticking away I determined that the flasher unit is on the drivers side above and to the left of the steering column.
As I look under my steering column, its pretty much directly above (about 3 inches above) the left hand bolt securing the column, and its bright orange, though I guess thats by no means guaranteed on yours.
It was a complete sh!t to get my finger on it to feel it ticking, let alone thinking about replacing the flaming thing !

which is making reading difficult Andrew are you familiar with electrics?
Could you measure a voltage with a multimeter?
If so and you have the patience I reckon a few of us could get you through this.
if you haven't got a multimeter I bought one from maplin a couple of weeks back for 9 quid which is more than adequate. They do mail order www.maplin.co.uk
I'm going goggle eyed here typing this on my phone waiting for a meeting the customer moved without telling me. Customers who needs em.
