dipstick s3c

Hi,does anyone know what is the correct dipstick to have in an s3c as mine is just a straight bit of metal with no markings!!!

at a guess ford for 2.9 engine (granada)

I think Ian has the right dipstick but the end has been broken off.

Is It standard Scorpio or did they have modified sumps with a bespoke stick?

Anyone got a spare, as checking the oil in Ian's car is near impossible!

It is standard Sierra/Granada 2.9 V6

I was advised that it is a bispoke TVR dipstick and not a standard Ford component.

Think you will find if its a Ford block and a Ford sump its a Ford dipstick. As a little aside, and this is true and he was serious, a few years ago a customer phoned me and asked if I had any longer dipsticks because his didn't reach the oil anymore

That wasn't by somebody who sells "TVR" ones was it?

I've had a Granada and now the S, both with the same engine, and it's the same dipstick - anyway why would it not be?

Definitely the standard Ford item.
I had to replace mine a few years ago when the yellow plastic handle came off the original.

I was only saying as when I went to get a new one (thinking it was a standard Ford part) I was told although it was made by Ford it was specially produced for TVR. You should be able to tell this from the number stamped on it.

definetly stock ford item, purchased one last year from my local ford dealership. if my memory serves me cost was about a tenner.

thanks for all the coments , tryed my local ford dealer , they asked what the doner car was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just had a look at the d'stick in my S3C and have some info which could be useful if you haven't already sorted it:
- In case you have what is the bottom part of a correct d'stick - From the top of the dipstick (the bottom face of the flange where it fits into the pipe on the side of the engine) to the top (full) mark is 34.5cm and to the bottom mark it is 37 cm.
- The dipstick has a yellow top as has already been reported and has Ford on one side of the handle and on the other side 86 TM 6750-AB which should help to sort it.

thanks jim, just checked my dipstick against what you said, mines the right one but with the end missing......useful!!!!! off to get a new one.

Makes you wonder where the bit off the end is?
As an afterthought it may be worth sticking a magnet on the sump at the lowest point,if it move past it should hold it.

Stoneman, don't worry about the broken bit, its not in the engine as it stuck to the magnetic sump plug and has been removed. Even if it hadn't it won't get pass the filter and go into the engine, but fitting a magnet to the sump plug (which has already been done) is a good idea.



I still say the dipstick is not a standard Ford part, please check the serial number before you buy another one.
