latest project

Many of you will know that i can't stop playing with stuff on my V8S .. much of it doesn't see the light of trackday if it's not good enough, but this is the latest project in part-built form and after taking a pic of it last night i just had to post it up here 'cos it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside looking at it lol .. 8 of 47mm bespoke butterflies, needle roller bearings throughout, gun-drilled shafts, half throttle spindles and looks damn sexy even before anodising It's been tried before of course but there's nothing like trying stuff out for yourself. Sadly not my engineering, but i'm fortunate enough to know good machinists who'll turn dreams into reality

Now that looks very nice. I'm a little jealous! I haven't got any shiny bits like that on my car other than the Protechs (yet)

Looks nice,but how do you get more air through as you now have a a relatively large restriction in the line

they slightly bigger than cerbera 4.5 throttle (47mm v 46mm near enough) and the cerbera ones flow enough for 440bhp .. so i'm not expecting too many problems there

BTW, squeaky rear end mostly solved by the application of lubricant..

What benefit are you expecting over a plenum setup using a similar trumpet base without the throttles? Are you looking for a wild cam to go with it?

No idea Peter .. that's what we're trying to figure out

there's many options going on : std plenum cover, carbon cover, ram pipes or blended base and long variable length pipes a-la cerbera into two separate airboxes each side of the engine .. will be interesting finding out what works best. dyno work starts soon We're expecting most gains on driveability with separated pipes into two airboxes with wild cams .. we know std 72mm plenums are very high flowing so i don't know about outright top end hp gains, but there may be opportunity for fattening the rest of the rev range out and if there's top end gains then that's a bonus

update. it works!! ok this is ona Griffith 'cos i havent got an adjustable ecu on the S just at the mo but the vid is pretty cool. Full power dyno run, hp was 338 up from 318 on a 72mm plenum


enjoy the sound of the big V8 and the sight of those 8 butterflies hehe! I love it, gonna have to engineer some kind of transparent cover for the air box now so i can look at it once it's fitted to the S

Does look good in action. Since it's upstream of the throttles I guess you could use any old see-through box, doesn't need to be particularly substantial. Just make sure you have something that can cope with the odd back-fire!

Nice bit of engineering, especially if it works, John Eales, V8D and NGK have all tried this very mod but nobody could get it to run reliably enough to put it into production, I have a customer who has produced the very same but i think is having trouble stabilising the idle speed, otherwise i would have taken him up on his offer to market them, hats off to you if you get it into production.
