Petrol filler drainage?

In fiddling around and removing the filler cap I came across a drainage pip which leads from under the filler cap somewhere through the boot... Damned thing came off in my hands before I'd gotten the last bolt out from the cap assembly, strange thing is with everthing loose I can't see any sign of the hole! Is there one under the filler assembly somewhere?
