help my s2 wont start, its cut out twice and the rev counter bounces all over the place. it now wont start and having been towed home by the "AA" im n ot happy. 2 weeks the car was at a dealer where they had to have the ecu out on a "breakout box" to find a fault with the "tps". "AA" man found the ecu was not switching the coil so will not start. coil, leads, cap, rotor and plugs all new but still no go.
has anybody any ideas
thanks

L+F,
It could be related to the wiring somewhere. I'm guessing here a little really, but I would check the connections into the ECU is clean and the wires aren't loose etc.
It's not fun chasing wires around an 'S' but often fruitful.
If the ECU is knackered then the dealer should have been able to identify that. If it does need replacing then don't be tempted by a scrapyard job. I was warned well away from this for a variety of reasons and a new one is the only route. £350 ish I think.
At one point one garage thought mine was knackered, this was after the problem was diagnosed as a leaky inlet manifold by another garage and in the end I solved the problem and traced it to a leaky Brake servo !!! The likely outcome will not be the ECU at all.
I hope your problem is as simple as mine was, and as cheap
Good luck
Mark

L+F,
Is the rev counter bouncing all over the show as a true representation of engine revs, or is it just doing it's own thing ??
There is feed from the rev counter I believe into the ignition somewhere. It may be connected to the problem.
Leebee knows what I mean in a little more detail..

HOORAY IVE GOT IT GOING. CAME IN FROM WORK TODAY AND IT STARTED FIRST TIME!!!!
I WIGGLED THE WIRES TO THE COIL AND IT STOPPED. TRIED TO RESTART IT AND NO GO.CHECKED THE COIL WIRING AND FOUND THE TERMINALS LOOSE. CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT WHEN THE DEALER REMOVED THE COIL TO DO THE TAPPETS THAT THEY DID,NT TIGHTEN THEM UP. SO PUT NEW RINGS ON AND NEW WASHERS AND NUTS AND STARTS FIRST TIME EVERY TIME.
THANKS EVERYBODY
p.s LEEBEE WILL EMAIL YOU ABOUT THE WHEELS.
