S3 rear drums / calipers

Whilst bleeding the brakes last night, came round to my last corner, nearside rear & bleed nipple was very tight. gave a bit of force & smashed the cast housing. DOH!!!

Does anyone know if it is definately from 2.3D sierra?

Any help apreciated. Ta.

A good question! I'm in the proceeds of replacing my seals on the S2. The Ford part number for the caliper is 1630040 and it's off a Sierra (not the 4x4) My caliper has a 54mm pot. I've been told that they are off the 2.0, but don't quote me. I'm hoping by this after noon to have a answer to what they came off.

what did you break exactly ? anyway if its replacement parts you need look here

I have just bought new rear shoes and the correct ones were listed as the 2.0 DOHC exc Cosworth, but I see the 2.3 D is listed as the same shoes, take a look and compare the drawings with your broken bit

my logic being if the shoes are the same, then the cylinders will be also.

Yep, 1.8 or 2.3D Sierra is the one!

I wrote it in here at the time, mainly to help anybody looking for advice (of course!) but partly to remind myself next time!

Actully broke the back of the calliper where the bleed nipple is screwed in, the cast bit. It took a fair bit of hammering to get the drum free, tried to loosen hand brake cable on the adjuster just in case it was sticking, but couldn't get a decent grip on it to turn the plastic bit, got really angry & took it out on the drum, got my pry-bar revved up & eventually got my way....!!!

then the feed pipe into the caliper wouldn't undo, the union is made out of brass, just rounded off, so got hack saw out.....

You've got drum brakes so when you order your replacement refer to it as a wheel cylinder. It'll save a lot of confusion.

They don't cost much and somewhere like Halfords should stock them but I'll find out at lunchtime because I need a new one as well.

I bought mine in Halfords for about a tenner (see above link) although that was a couple of years ago now, but I can't imagine they'll have increased significantly.

oh yes, and the best bit after I removed the cylinder I forgot to mention....

squeezed the pistons in just to see what happens (even tho I knew) & squirted brake fluid all over the wheel arch......

Went to Halfords and they don't stock things like wheel cylinders now. About 2 years ago HO started recalling stock and sold it off elsewhere. Brake pads, oil filters, fan belts,plugs and thermostats seem to be the consumables they have left now.
Went to Partco instead and it was under £7.
