s2 chassis tube

Just about to start body off restoration on s2 and need a few feet of chassis tube to replace front offside outrigger. Does anyone know the size and any local suppliers in the Bristol area. I am considering inserting smaller diameter tube into existing and new tube to stiffen the joint - anyone done this before. Any help appreciated

My chimaera had it's outriggers done recently. Dave, 'numbnuts' on ph ordered the steel...drop him a pm or put a 'calling numbnuts' post on the wedge forum.

(Those measurements are for the chimaera, so just make sure before ordering. )

1.5" diameter 1.6mm wall thickness ERW tubing is what you need. As a price guide a 6 metre length is just over a tenner. Some people have specified seamless tubing when they did their outriggers but TVR used ERW originally - probably because it is cheap and it does the job.

we did the same thing when i did outriggers we sleeved it to make the fit better it was also easier to weld

If you struggle to get an exact fit for the inner tube, get the closest you can and cut a slot long its length and open it out to fit, the temptation would be to put the slot at the bottom, I would put it at about 8.0 clock on the existing tube, it should make it easier to weld the underside without worrying about "Holeing" it.

Thanks everyone for the responses - extremely helpful. I have just about completed my new shed (actually 20ft x 12ft garage) at the bottom of garden so will be starting the strip down and body removal shortly. I will post some pics when I get going. Cheers
