Roof Alignment

I keep forgetting to sort this out as the roof only goes on once in a blue moon, but as fitting the roof is at the moment a two man job, I figure I better get it fixed.

The front-facing lug fit perfectly at the front of the roof, it's those at the back that cause problems, specifically the middles ones, as the roof can be shut if someone pushes down near the join of the two panels. Once pushed down the roof is stiff to close, but will do so.

I've had a peek but cannot see which lug is catching or whether it is something else but haven't spotted anything yet, so am not entirely sure.

One thing I've had suggested is filing the lugs so rather than them having a straight edge they are pointed, thus making them more likely to find their way into the slot. This seems a pretty easy solution, but before embarking on it tomorrow I wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this and how they solved it...

A case of RTFM here it seems.

I've always closed the roof by putting the back panel up, resting the panels on top and fixing the lugs in the front, then pushing the back section in place.

However, after inspirationally reading the manual last night, getting the back-edge in first and then moving the panel into place to locate the front lugs works a treat and I can fit the roof all by myself

I find it helps to have the doors open aswell so that the panels can slide easily into the front mounts - can't remember if that tip is in the manual, in fact I can't remember where the manual is!!

Roof panels go into the hoop with the hoop flat, whole thing folds over and are then guided into the front section. Woeked a treat on the S3, pain in the proverbial on the V8, but its the only way it seems to want to go on.

just make sure the clips are folded down out of the way, if they get trapped between the roof panel and the windscreen it won't quite fit but you can end up braking the clips trying to make it.

I think the previous owner had been there and done that, as it's got metal replacement clips fitted now.

Also the paint above the windscreen is weirdly scratched, so I think somewhere along the line someone struggled fitting the roof on.
